Client 96: Freedom for a Great-Grandmother

Last week, I (Blake) had the privilege of giving a vehicle to our 96th client, one of the sweetest, dearest women I’ve ever met. For safety reasons, I can’t tell you her name or show you her picture. Here is what I can tell you: she’s a widow who is raising her toddler great-grandchild on her own. She has rescued this precious child out of a very bad situation. She was sponsored by BCS Together, a wonderful organization supporting foster families in our community. This woman has worked incredibly hard to provide a safe, loving, stable home for her great-grandchild. But she’s been without a car, meaning she can’t get this little girl to the doctor, church, or go to the store for essentials. Can you imagine being towards the end of your journey through life, having already buried your spouse, and now called upon to raise a great-grandchild… but without any vehicle or the income to purchase one?

While we can’t provide everything this dear woman needs as she faces this massive new responsibility in life, we can provide reliable transportation! This cute Kia Soul makes the perfect vehicle to meet this need. It’s surprisingly spacious, exceptionally easy to get in and out of, and good on gas. We’re grateful to provide the independence she needs to get to doctor appointments, church, and the store, and take her great-grandchild on trips throughout the country.

On the day we gave her this car, she exclaimed, “I’m so proud to be here for [my great-granddaughter] to watch her grow up. I want to thank you so much for the opportunity for my freedom to take her places. Praise God. Thank you again”

Thank you to all who helped make this donation possible for this widow and her great-grandchild. I hope their story helps you see the impact you are having in our community.

Since we are rapidly closing in on client #100, let me remind you to reserve Saturday April 30th from noon to 2:30 to join us for a massive CELEBRATION with free lunch at Central Church (former Central Baptist). We’ll gather former clients, volunteers, donors, advocates and anyone else connected to OnRamp to celebrate this milestone together. Evites coming very soon.

Finally, if you ordered an OnRamp t-shirt - they’ve arrived! If you chose the shipping option, they’re already on their way. If you chose pickup, we have them at OnRamp’s headquarters (aka. Blake’s house :-) all ready for you. Please drop Blake an email at blakej@onramptx.org to let him know what day you want to pick up your shirt(s) and he’ll have them bagged and ready for you on the porch. He’ll give you his address to - it’s in south College Station in the StoneForest neighborhood. If you didn’t order a shirt in time, we’ll have more for sale for $15 each at the 100th Client Celebration.
