Clients 97 and 98: Tunisia to Texas, Addiction to Freedom

Last Wednesday, March 23, OnRamp had the privilege of donating TWO reliable cars to our next clients.

Our 97th client, Wael and Miryam just immigrated from Tunisia to pursue new opportunities for work and family. Their advocate, Chris, has known Wael for seven years through the technology company where they work and has been a mentor to him. Wael has proven to be remarkably kind, smart, hardworking, and faithful. While in Tunisia, this young family succeeded at becoming self-sufficient and saving for the future. However, the Tunisian government does not allow citizens to take significant money out of the country, meaning that Wael and his family landed in the US with not much more than their luggage and the shirts on their backs. Wael still has his great job with the same company, and has been able to save up a little, but with all the expenses of settling into a new country, there simply wasn’t enough money to afford a reliable car. So OnRamp stepped in with an unusual opportunity. Whatever Wael and Miryam brought to the table, we would double, plus pay taxes and maintenance. They were able to save $3500 and OnRamp brought the same so that we could buy this reliable, low mileage Honda Civic for them. Now, as they build a new life here in Texas, they have safe, reliable transportation to provide for their kids and their future. We’re so grateful to help bless people new to our country!

Our 98th client, Sabrina, fits a pattern of folks OnRamp loves to help: people who are in addiction recovery and seeking to build a new life of sobriety, stability, and faithfulness. Sabrina completed a rehab program two years ago and has sought to follow the Lord since. She does not hesitate to give thanks to God for watching over her and blessing her in life with this second chance. However, her employment and community opportunities have been severely limited by her lack of a vehicle, which makes it difficult to ever get fully on one’s feet. So The Bridge Ministries nominated her for an OnRamp vehicle. As is often the case, Sabrina needed to complete a number of challenging Action Steps that would prepare her for success once she received a vehicle. She opened a savings account, created a budget, and provided pay stubs showing consistent employment that would enable her to afford insurance and fuel. As a result, we were delighted to reward her with this reliable Mazda 3, a vehicle that has proven very reliable for OnRamp clients in the past! We believe in a God of second chances (and 3rd, 4th, 5th…). Let us go and do likewise for those in need!

If you’re a client, advocate, donor, volunteer, supporter… or just friend of OnRamp, we’d LOVE to have you join us for a free, catered lunch on April 30th at noon to celebrate our 100th Client Milestone! It’ll be a party to remember as we give thanks that God has allowed us together to bless so many individuals and families in our community with the gift of reliable transportation.
