There's something unstoppable about a parent's love. It doesn't calculate risk. It doesn't hesitate. It does whatever’s necessary, even when that means leaving everything behind.

That's exactly what our newest OnRamp client did. When her young son needed specialized medical care that wasn't available where they lived, she packed up their lives, left her family and friends behind, and relocated across the country to be where her son could get the help he needed.

Now she works hard everyday to build a new life for him. She manages every aspect of her son's care. She shows up for her full-time job, for his appointments, for the thousand small responsibilities that fill the days of a single mom building a life from scratch in an unfamiliar place.

But until yesterday, she did all of that without a car.

Think about what that actually means. No car, in a community where public transit takes hours to get around town. No car, when your child has appointments that can't wait. She and her son had to do many of his appointments by Zoom due to lack of a vehicle. It was better than nothing, but it wasn't the same as being there in person. For a child with specialized needs, this wasn’t sustainable, and she knew it.

Yesterday, that changed.

OnRamp gifted her a reliable vehicle (a Toyota Corolla with just 28,000 miles on it - it’s just barely broken in!!), and with it, something she hasn't had since she arrived here: mobility. Now she can get her son to his appointments in person. Now she can pursue better opportunities at work. Now she and her son can build friendships and community in this new home.

We wish you could have seen her face when she got the keys.
