Client 296: Grace in Her Court
Meet Elizabeth, a first-generation student at Texas A&M in her senior year studying Psychology with plans for a career in real estate. She works the morning shift at Dutch Bros before class, co-leads a Bible study at Grace Bible, and regularly drives fellow students to church who don’t have cars of their own. Elizabeth knows firsthand that nothing in life is guaranteed. When she was 12, her parents fled Turkey as asylum seekers because their involvement in an underground church had put their lives in danger. That experience shaped her into someone who treats every opportunity as a gift, and every gift as something to share.
So when her 2004 Mitsubishi finally gave out at over 205,000 miles, Elizabeth wasn’t the only one stranded. Despite every effort to patch it together, the car was no longer safe to drive.
Thankfully, Elizabeth had Grace in her court. Grace and Ray Pentecost, that is! A year ago, Elizabeth approached the Pentecosts, table group leaders at Grace Bible Church Southwood, and asked them to mentor her. How many college students do that? They gladly said yes, and have met with her every week since to study the Bible and talk through her goals. They describe her as remarkably mature, teachable, honest even about difficult topics, and enthusiastic about her faith. So when the Mitsubishi died, they didn’t hesitate to nominate her to OnRamp.
Last week, we joyfully gifted Elizabeth this blue Honda Fit, an economical and reliable ride with plenty of room for friends. She can get to work without spending hours on a bus, finally make the trip home to Rockwall to see her family, and fill her passenger seats again on Sunday mornings. Given all she has already overcome and her humble, teachable spirit, we are confident God has big plans in store for this remarkable young woman!
Elizabeth’s Honda Fit was made possible by people like you. Right now, you can double that kind of impact.
During Brazos Valley Gives, every dollar donated to OnRamp will be matched, up to $23,500. A $25 gift becomes $50, enough for rideshare credit to keep a client getting to work while their car is in the shop. A $150 gift becomes $300, enough for a new set of tires. A $500 gift becomes $1,000 to cover a major repair. Every gift helps put the next hardworking client like Elizabeth in the driver’s seat, along with a full year of maintenance support and mentoring.
Give through this link before 11pm on Tuesday, October 20, so no matching dollars are left unclaimed.
