Client 262: You Just Know
Sometimes you just know in your gut that a client will succeed. While we hope and pray that all of OnRamp’s clients become self-sufficient and thrive, we recognize that life is hard and that some may not achieve all they aspire to. Yet we don’t think that will be the case for Taylor D, our 262nd client. What an impressive, kind, and responsible woman!
This single mother of three fled domestic violence and moved to Texas in 2023 to raise her children in safety. Since then, she has worked as many hours as possible to provide for all of their needs. She enrolled in the Methodist Children’s Home Family Outreach program where she received the coaching, skills, love, and support to be an even better parent. Life was becoming stable and hopeful… until she lost her only vehicle. In a car-centric community like ours, life for parents of young kids is nearly impossible without a reliable vehicle. She and her kids began to miss doctor appointments, extracurricular activities, and even school if they were late for the bus. To keep her job, Taylor had to utilize Uber and Lyft every day, spending an average of $1400 per month on ride-shares. That’s an entire mortgage payment for many of us! Self-sufficiency would not possible without help.
That’s why Taylor’s case manager enthusiastically nominated her to OnRamp. Based on how much she spent on ride-shares, we knew she could afford insurance and fuel for any vehicle we gave her, and still have plenty left over to build her savings and pay down debt. She was an easy “yes”! So on Tuesday of this week we gathered under the sun on a frigid morning to gift her this lovely Toyota Camry. Jessycah Carroll, the director of MCH Bryan joined us to celebrate Taylor. After we prayed for her, she drove off to work to start her shift. But as soon as she arrived, she took a moment to send us this,
“Today has been a very tearful day for me as well; tears of joy, relief, and deep gratitude. Thank you all so much for seeing a mother’s cry for help. The relief you’ve provided is something I will never forget. I’m so thankful for the compassion, grace, and humanity that you and the entire OnRamp family lead with. What you’ve done for me and my children is truly life-changing, and I hold it with such reverence.”
Stories like this can feel routine after 262 clients served. Yet for Taylor and her kids, this wasn’t routine! This was a one-a-million day when Jesus’ love shown down in a most tangible way to help this precious family thrive.
If you’d like to help us serve more families like Taylor’s, please consider sponsoring a bay or two at our 4th annual Drive with OnRamp event on March 28th from 4-7pm. It will be a night of fun and fundraising where you can bring your coworkers, family, friends, kids, or neighbors to Top Golf in Bryan to play mini golf, top golf, eat food and help our organization raise money to gift more reliable vehicles to families in our community. The event space has already been paid for, so every dollar you give goes to our charity!
Below you’ll see the sponsorship “menu.” Eagle and Birdie do include the bays themselves, meaning you’d get to invite staff or friends to join you for dinner and play. The Par sponsorship option includes media but not bays in case you are unable to attend.
